According to Greek mythology, Prometheus stole fire from heaven to help humankind. Supreme deity Zeus was furious and imposed a perpetual punishment: Prometheus was tied to a rock while an eagle tore out his liver each day. At night, the organ grew back. Moreelse portrayed this horror scene with poignancy, as if he was there himself. Prometheus' intense feelings of pain and despair leave no one unmoved. [text 2023]
