Visiting the Centraal Museum with Kids
Come look, explore, play and create together. At the Centraal Museum, you and your kids can discover how exciting art, design, fashion and stories from Utrecht are. Whether you’re looking for a relaxed outing on a teacher training day, something fun to do during the school holidays or a weekend activity. There’s always something for curious families to explore.
Family programme
There are various ways for children and their accompanying adults to explore the museum together. The family game, featuring activities that invite you to look, smell and get hands-on, is available every day. During the school holidays, we also offer creative workshops and a family tour of the Centraal Museum and the miffy museum. Our entire programme is free with a valid museum ticket.
Exhibitions
There's is always something to discover in Collectie Centraal: from fascinating objects and colourful artworks to stories about Utrecht, past and present. The temporary exhibitions change regularly and cover a variety of subjects. Check what's on display in advance to decide what best suits your child’s age and interests.
The family game 'What Do We See?' can be played in any exhibition.
Good to know
- The Centraal Museum is open Tuesday through Sunday from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
- Children aged 17 and under can visit the museum free of charge.
- You can buy tickets online or at the box office.
- The museum is located at Agnietenstraat 1 in Utrecht, within walking distance of the city centre.
- The museum café and museum shop can also be visited without a museum ticket.
Frequently asked questions about visiting with children
Our workshops and family game are designed for children aged 6 to 12. Younger children (aged 4 to 6) can join the 'Land en lucht' family tour.
For a regular museum visit, you can buy tickets online or at the ticket desk. There is no need to register for the workshops or the family game.
Would you like to join the guided tour? You'll need a reservation.
Allow 1 to 2 hours on average. If you join a workshop or guided tour, you can easily turn your visit into a longer family activity.
Yes, you can visit the Museum Café. It is also accessible without a museum ticket, making it a convenient place to take a break before or after your museum visit.
