I Am Simply Here

Disability is never far away. It is both ordinary and extraordinary. In I Am Simply Here we look from the perspective of disability at the maker, the person, and society – through everyday experiences and artworks that are full of fantasy. In this exhibition, the Kreukelcollectief (The Cripple Collective) – a group of disabled artists, activists and researchers – turns the idea of normal life on its head.

When do your body and mind conform to ‘the’ norm? And who decides what that norm is? In five spaces, you will explore the boundaries between normal and abnormal. Become aware of your prejudices and your perspective on the world in the Staring Room. Feel shut out or locked up in The Institute. Let yourself go in the Warrior Room. Be seduced in the Pleasure Garden. And confront yourself in the Hall of Mirrors.
