In 1957, the Utrecht-based Genootschap Kunstliefde celebrated its 150th anniversary with an exhibition at Centraal Museum. Kunstliefde member Dick Bruna designed the poster. The chisel and palette symbolise the sculptors and painters in the society. The soaring bird represents the artists’ freedom, inspiration and creativity.

Dick Bruna

Dick Bruna, de geestelijk vader van nijntje (Miffy), wordt geboren in Utrecht als oudste zoon van een uitgeversfamilie. Ondanks de verwachting dat hij zijn vader als directeur opvolgt, wordt hij kunstenaar. Hij schrijft en illustreert 124 prentenboeken, ontwerpt vele affiches en omslagen, o.a. voor de Zwarte Beertjes pocketreeks. Nationaal en internationaal maakt Dick Bruna zestig jaar furore met zijn werk. In 2011 stopt hij met werken. Hij wordt 89 jaar.
