In 1920, Lady Carla de Jonge procured her first pieces for Centraal Museum’s collection: two dresses from around 1878, including this outfit. The dresses came from her own family
and were donated by de Jonge and her sister Lady Wilhelmina Aricie Caroline de Jonge (1885-1959). During her time at the museum, de Jonge added over two hundred garments
to the costume collection. From 1941 to 1951, de Jonge was Centraal Museum’s first female director and one of the first in the Netherlands. [text 2024]
