For a long time, making art about your desire for children or your children was frowned upon as overly sentimental. Britt Dorenbosch wanted to change this preconception and make art about her own child and desire for children, and embrace the everyday in the process. Since becoming a mother, her work process has changed. Needing to divide her time between caregiving and making art, she has less opportunity to paint larger canvases in one go. As a result, she now assembles her pieces from multiple smaller fragments. The Birth of Conception shows two pear-like fruits. One is a ‘failed’ fruit, the other is fully grown. [text 2025]
