The Italian design duo Formafantasma combines sustainable material use with austere design. Several components of this Low Chairhave been sourced from mobile phones, including gold. The telephones used by Formafantasma are ‘dead stock’: models that were never sold because newer models had been released in the meantime. The studio aims to demonstrate that design is partly to blame for overproduction.  

The ongoing research project Ore Streamsaddresses the fact that soon there will be more precious metals to be found above ground than below. Formafantasma aims to turn the tide. With its designs, the studio attempts to raise public awareness of the impact of the production of objects on the natural world. [text 2023]
