With A Basic Instinct, Anna Aagaard Jensen aims to encourage a more provocative, emancipatory, and confrontational bodily posture in women’s body language. The chair is intended to boost women’s self-confidence by letting them take a more outspoken bodily posture, and to create a body language that enables women to claim more space in the public domain. The chair may only be used by people who identify as female. As soon as you take a seat, you will quickly realise that the chair forces you to lean back with self-assurance, to spread your legs and claim space. [text 2024]
Anna Aagaard Jensen onderzoekt hoe design ons gedrag beïnvloed, vaak in het kader traditionele man-vrouwverhoudingen. Met haar werk creëert ze ruimte voor het vrouwelijke. Bijvoorbeeld met ‘a basic instinct’ een stoel waar alleen vrouwen op mogen zitten. In 2025 cureerde ze in het Centraal Museum ‘Welkom thuis, lieverd’. In deze tentoonstelling belichte Aagaard Jensen en haar imaginaire ‘gastvrouwen’ de vrouwelijke geschiedenis van de collectie van het Centraal Museum.
