In 2010, at the invitation of artist residency Het vijfde seizoen, Ienke Kastelein organised a performance in a psychiatric institution in Den Dolder titled IK ZIT IN DEN DOLDER® (‘I am/sit in Den Dolder’). For the performance she used the white plastic Monobloc, a chair that is easy to use and available everywhere. For that reason, the chair is able to represent every ‘I’ that takes a seat on it. It again features in Kastelein’s work in 2014. Together with her partner, she traversed New York carrying a white chair on her back, looking for a suitable place to sit. She then invited people to take a seat on the chair and have a conversation. [text 2023]
