Jurk Cheops uit de collectie Mummification

This dress laced with black leather strips features metal eyelets. In her Mummification collection, Van Herpen creates her own reality by combining contemporary materials with ancient techniques. Her inspiration here is the ancient Egyptian tradition of wrapping the bodies of the dead in strips of cloth, preserving them for the ‘real life’ after death. That way, the escaped soul can return to the body in the underworld. [text 2024]

Iris van Herpen

Modeontwerper Iris van Herpen start in 2007 haar gelijknamige modehuis. Ze maakt een onwisbare indruk door de combinatie van schijnbare tegenstellingen: traditioneel vakmanschap met innovatie en eeuwenoude mythologie met het virtueel metaversum. In 2011 organiseert het Centraal Museum haar eerste solotentoonstelling: Het nieuwe ambacht: Iris van Herpen en haar inspiratie. Ook koopt het museum verschillende werken aan, en geeft een opdracht voor een 3D geprinte top.
