Alexander van Slobbe is an important pioneer in the world of Dutch fashion design. As a reaction to the deconstruction and poverty look from the 1980's, Van Slobbe returns to the principles of couture. Draping material (moulage) and attention to detailed finishing are of utmost importance to him. His pieces are seemingly minimalistic but often involve a lot of skilled handwork. Van Slobbe enjoys working with others, as in his collaboration with artist Marc Mulders: they delve into their own backgrounds and transform each others’ work into a new design. This white dress is very literally the result of a physical exchange of materials. Mulders painted his characteristic 'signature' on to the delicate silk dress and Van Slobbe then added the finishing touch with an embroidery technique.
