Along with Desirée Scholten-Van de Rivière, Herman Scholten explores the boundaries of weaving, stripping the art of its quaint image. Both artists incorporate their findings into intense, emotionally-charged objects. For his Oosterse wolk (Eastern cloud), Scholten outlined the contours on the wall with nails and stretched his ‘loom’ between them – freed from the standard, restrictive rectangle and as flexible as possible in its outer form.
