Kacere’s entire oeuvre consists of women’s torsos, dressed only in skimpy lingerie. Greatly enlarged, the
skin fills the canvas without any context, almost like an abstract division of the surface. As viewers, we become
unsolicited voyeurs in this peep show, euphemistically entitled ‘torso’. Although Kacere’s openly erotic work was perceived as taboo-breaking at the time, today these images are unmistakably a product of (and for) the heterosexual male gaze. [text 2024]
