Here, Herman Saftleven blends his imagination with the real Utrecht. The Christian church building on the left is St Agnes’ chapel, built in 1516 as part of a convent dedicated to Saint Agnes. The nuns said their prayers in the upper chapel and held funeral masses for the deceased that were buried in the lower. Visitors were welcome there and they still are today: it is now Centraal Museum’s gift shop. [text 205]
