This dress is a good example of how different sleeves were developing: they were transformed within a short time from being tightly fitted to becoming enormous puffed sleeves as in the black Pasquier gown directly opposite. Demi-gigot sleeves were modern in 1897 and they are a good illustration of this transition. The bead and horn decoration applied to the dress is symmetrical. In the course of time this kind of decoration may damage the fabric, but due to the thickness of the rep silk the dress is still in good condition.
