deCentraal
Programmes with cultural partners both within and beyond the museum.
Together with partners from various disciplines, we develop a diverse programme featuring music, theatre, film and more.
We do this under the banner of deCentraal: in Utrecht and sometimes beyond.
About deCentraal
In 2018, we launched deCentraal. Our first major project was an art project by Jeremy Deller, in collaboration with BAK (Basis voor Actuele Kunst) and SPRING. For What is the City but the People, 150 Utrecht residents walked down a catwalk stretching several metres across Jaarbeursplein, presenting a cross-section of Utrecht. Especially for the occasion, artist duo Sander Breure and Witte van Hulzen created a film installation, which has since become part of our museum’s collection.
In 2025, we worked with residents of Utrecht on the 35-metre-long tapestry Threads of Our Dutch Slavery Past. It was presented during Keti Koti in Griftpark.
So you’ll find the museum not only on Agnietenstraat, but also in other neighbourhoods across the city and beyond. To make this possible, we work with partners including:
